Personal Best Sports Therapy
Meet Tamsin, the friendly face behind Personal Best Sports Therapy, and your senior treatment provider. Tamsin has been working as a soft tissue therapist in Torbay since 2014, when she qualified as a holistic massage therapist with Devon Academy of Complimentary Therapies. Since then she has been working hard to gain more and more qualifications and experience. Her list of certificates is ever growing, but to date includes Swedish and Indian Head Massage, Sports Massage, Level 5 Sports Therapy, and Level 3 Personal Training and Pilates Instruction. Most recently she has achieved the status of Bodymaster Practitioner, having studied under renowned UK Osteopath, John Gibbons, and also gained a qualification in Acupuncture for soft tissue injuries.
“I love my job. I love seeing the changes in people, from when they come to me in pain, to when they walk out again pain free, and go on to achieve something life changing for them.”
When Tamsin first started out as a massage therapist, she had no idea she wanted to work in the Sport and Fitness industry. But an opportunity presented itself to join the team at Paignton Rugby Club, and Tamsin got hooked! From cutting her teeth in the world of rugby with Paignton, Tamsin gained masses of experience dealing with injuries at every stage, from acute to long term rehabilitation. Following on from her time with Paignton RFC Tamsin went to work at Ivybridge RFC for a season, to gain some higher level rugby experience. She also spent many weekends working alongside a team of paramedics at Osprey Medical Support, doing event first aid at various motorcross, kart racing, festival and running events.
Although she has spent a lot of time on the rugby pitch and motorcross track, Tamsin herself prefers sports with less mud and blood! As a keen runner for several years, she has run three marathons, including London 2018. Due to an ongoing knee injury she now spends more time in the gym than out on the road, so she understands first-hand how commitment to any sport can induce stress and injury on the body. She has been practising Yoga and Pilates for many years, as a supplement to running, to help reduce the impact on her body. Tamsin can offer expert advice on flexibility, strength and stability, in its application to any sport or activity. She teaches regular Pilates classes at Devon Hills Fitness in Paignton.
Tamsin takes great pride in helping others overcome obstacles standing in the way of their physical goals, and reach their Personal Best, whatever their chosen sport. Contact her today, to see how she can help you.
Sports Massage Therapist
Sports Therapy Student
Janica Rekola is the newest member of the Personal Best Therapy team, joining the practice in 2020. Janica has been a practicing sports massage therapist in Finland and the USA, for over 20 years. She has also been teaching pilates and dance classes for a similar amount of time, so we are very lucky to have someone with so much experience on board. Janica is currently studying for her Foundation Degree in Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation at Exeter College, adding to her already wide skills as a bodywork practitioner.
Studying the body through instructing others, in dance and pilates, has given Janica a unique insight into how the body functions. She uses movement in much of her hands on treatment, and understands how to restore the body to normal function through movement. Our stressful and busy lives can so easily cause tension to be held in the body. Combine this with long periods of sitting, at work for example, and it can lead to pain and discomfort. Using movement to help the body restore it’s normal function and let go of tension, can be a gentle and relaxing way of letting go of pain.
As well as providing sports massage treatments, and 1:1 pilates coaching at Personal Best Therapy, Janica owns her own Pilates business, where she offers online training, wellbeing coaching, and pilates retreats. Check out her website at the link below.
