TAMSIN PHILP
Sports & Soft Tissue Therapist
Pilates Instructor
Meet Tamsin, the owner of Personal Best Sports Therapy. Tamsin has been working as a soft tissue therapist in Torbay since 2014, when she qualified as a holistic massage therapist with Devon Academy of Complimentary Therapies. Since then she has been working hard to gain more and more qualifications and experience. Her list of certificates is ever growing, but to date includes Sports Massage, Level 5 Sports Therapy, Personal Training and Pilates Instruction, FREC4 Emergency Response, and she is qualified as a John Gibbons Bodymaster Practitioner. Currently she is enrolled on the Burrell Education 3rd Age Transition course, where she is learning about Menopause, and how to support women through this period of change, via exercise, nutrition and wellbeing.
“I love my job. I love seeing the changes in people, from when they come to me in pain, to when they walk out again pain free, and go on to achieve something life changing for them.”
When Tamsin first started out as a massage therapist, she had no idea she wanted to work in the Sport and Fitness industry. But an opportunity presented itself to join the team at Paignton Rugby Club, and Tamsin got hooked! From cutting her teeth in the world of rugby with Paignton, Tamsin gained masses of experience dealing with injuries at every stage, from acute to long term rehabilitation. Following on from her time with Paignton RFC Tamsin went to work at Ivybridge RFC for a season, to gain some higher level rugby experience. She now spends many weekends working alongside a team of paramedics at Toadpit Event Medical Support, doing event first aid at various motorcross, American football, rugby and athletics events. And most recently she has been appointed as part of the Sports Science and Medicine Team, with GB Maxibasketball. She supported the men’s over 40s team during the European Championships in 2022, a the ladies over 50s team, in the 2024 Euros.
Although she has spent a lot of time on the rugby pitch, basketball court and motorcross track, Tamsin herself prefers sports with less mud and blood! As a keen runner for several years, she has run three marathons, including London 2018. Due to an ongoing knee injury she now spends more time hiking the Devon coastal trails than out on the road, so she understands first-hand how commitment to any sport can induce stress and injury on the body. She has been practicing climbing, Yoga and Pilates for many years, as a supplement to running, to help reduce the impact on her body. Tamsin can offer expert advice on flexibility, strength and stability, in its application to any sport or activity. She teaches regular Pilates classes – Tuesday 5.45pm, Wednesday 10.30am and Friday 10.30am at Winners 2000 Paignton.
Tamsin takes great pride in helping others overcome obstacles standing in the way of their physical goals, and reach their Personal Best, whatever their chosen sport. Contact her today, to see how she can help you.
