Nutrition Coaching

What is Nutrition Coaching?

Nutrition is one of the vital ingredients for good overall health. What you put into your body very much determines what you get out of it. You wouldn’t run a Ferrari in sawdust, and you wouldn’t expect the best long-term performance from it if you run it on budget fuel, although it might function to some degree. When we eat excessive sugar, saturated fat and salt, we are often still surprised when our bodies don’t perform as they should.

But eating healthily isn’t always as straightforward as it should be. Diet culture is a big business, and sadly, full of mis-information. As a Health and Nutrition Coach, it’s my job to cut through all the glossy advertising and promises of quick fixes, to give you facts and science based plans that you can understand and fit to your lifestyle.

What can I help with?
Let’s face it, many of us, particularly women, have been sucked into trying the latest diet fad at some point in our lives. Whether it be keto, intermittent fasting, juice diets, diet pills, or the latest injectable weight loss drug, these diets all have one thing in common – They aren’t sustainable!

Yes, you might lose some weight in the first few weeks, you might even stick with it long enough to reach your target weight. But then, either the cravings become unbearable, your metabolism slows down, or you gradually return to old habits, and all the weight begins to pile back on.

I specialise in providing weight loss programs that are built to last. First and foremost, we look at your individual eating habits and find healthy, sustainable adjustments you can easily make for the whole of your life. We then create a small calorie deficit, to enable you to make steady progress, without starving yourself. No food is off limits, so no need for cravings. We work together, with your body, to give it everything it needs, so you lose the excess weight, without losing muscle, without lowering your energy levels, and without losing your sanity!
Sometimes during a weight loss plan we find that over time the rate of loss begins to slow right down, and we get stuck in a plateau. This can be really frustrating, particularly if we were losing weight at a steady rate to begin with. Willpower will inevitably suffer, which can lead to quitting the plan altogether, or just feeling really depressed and resentful. I’ve been there myself so totally get it!

The reason for this slow down is that, as we cut calories, our metabolism adjusts to the lower amount of calories, and will simply burn less. If we burn less calories, we won’t lose any weight, and the more calories we cut in an attempt to continue losing weight, the more our weight will stay the same, and the more frustrated (and hungry!) we get.

I can help get your metabolism back on track. With a 3-6 week metabolic reset plan, I can get you back to eating satisfying amounts of food again, and losing weight. No more starving yourself, only to see the scales not budging.

Fuelling for a sports event or season is really important to ensure optimal performance. Your body is like a Ferrari. You’ve done all the fine tuning in the gym or out on the running track, but if you put sawdust in the tank its going to stall. My sports nutrition programming will allow you to balance calorie consumption with muscle/strength building and optimal fuelling for endurance, to ensure you never run out of steam during an event or game. Good nutrition will also allow you to train and develop at your peak level, whilst improving recovery outcomes and reducing injury risk.

We all know we could do more to eat healthier. We are told every day to cut down on sugar, salt and fat. And yet the supermarket shelves are stacked full of sugary, fatty, salty foods, all with branding telling us they are good for us! How do you know what healthy eating looks like?

I can help you cut through all of the misinformation, and work with you to develop a healthy diet you will want to stick to. Not sure how much fibre you need to eat? You’ve heard all the talk about UPF but you’re not really sure how to avoid it? Maybe you want to know about pro-biotics and whether you should be incorporating them into your diet. I can help with sound, science based advice. I don’t sell products, and I’m not a Tik Toc influencer! I just want to help my clients live their Personal Best lives.
Do you suffer with skin problems, digestive issues, frequent infections, bloating etc? There is a good chance you may have a sensitivity or intolerance to something you eat. I can help you systematically identify and eliminate the problem food, so you can begin to feel healthy and in control again.

Blood tests for allergies or food sensitivities are often inconclusive or inaccurate. Only by working through the foods you eat regularly and testing each one can you find out the true culprit for making you feel less than 100%. Elimination diets aren’t enjoyable, but having a coach to help guide and encourage you through the process can make it a lot easier and less stressful. Once we know what’s causing the issue, I can offer advice and help to identify what foods you can safely eat, and get you feeling healthier and happier.
This is a really complex issue, but massively under diagnosed and treated. It’s often deep seated in emotional trauma. I work alongside a wonderful counsellor and therapist, Victoria Blake from Safe Harbour Counselling, to help you manage and resolve food addiction issues.

If you think you might have a problem with addiction, please contact us for a consultation, where we can talk about how we can help you move forward.
