Movement and Exercise

Why is movement and exercise so important?
I believe that moving our body is the most fundamental element of good health. Without movement our body simply cannot function. It not only controls our weight through exercise and burning calories. Movements plays an integral part of our circulatory system, our nervous system, it supports bone and muscle health, and it supports our mental health.
How does Personal Best Therapy support movement and exercise?

I currently teach Pilates in a group class, at Winners 2000, and I offer 1:1 movement therapy sessions as well.

There are a few different forms of Pilates. I teach basic mat based Pilates, with a twist. As a Sports Therapist I have an understanding of the ways in which the body needs to move, and how to build core muscle strength to supports it’s structures. I do not, therefore, just teach the traditional Pilates exercises. I add in a wide range of movements that are designed to improve mobility in the joints, bone health/strength, balance to protect us from falls in older age, and functional movement patterns that keep us active throughout our daily lives.

My Pilates sessions are suitable for all ages and abilities. Each exercise comes with easier and more challenging variations, so that, whatever your level of fitness, you can find the level that is appropriate for you. I encourage my members to challenge themselves in safe ways, to build on their foundations.

1:1 Exercise Sessions

I can also offer 1:1 Pilates sessions if you do not feel comfortable working in a group. And I offer movement sessions to help overcome pain and injury. This is usually as part of a Sports Therapy rehabilitation program, so please check out my Sports Therapy page for more information (link).

Please note, I am not a personal trainer. However, I do work with a number of excellent PTs through Winners gym. Please get in touch to discuss your requirements and I can link you to a recommended PT who is best aligned with your goals.
